Ways To Beat Depression Fast
When a dark mood takes hold and threatens to ruin everything in its path, take steps and learn how to beat depression fast.
Exercise: Depression is a serious medical condition caused by a combination of an imbalance of brain chemicals and other factors. Severe and prolonged depression can damage the limbic system, so anything you can do to reduce the length of the depression will contribute to overall wellness. Exercise releases endorphins which counter the effects of the chemicals released into a depressed body. Even a little exercise is better than none. If a long workout seems more than manageable, any movement will release endorphins.
Diet: Some foods can trigger depression or make it more difficult for the body to overcome an existing state. There is a great deal of research available that shows a link between diet and depression. Sugar is as bad as poison. Low blood sugar can often trigger depression. So, moderating blood sugar levels rather than eating sugary foods that bring on a sugar crash helps the body fight depression. Foods high in Vitamin C have been shown to help the body counteract the effects of stress. Stress and the hormones the body releases in stressful times often contributes to depression. In addition to citrus fruits, tomatoes are a good source of Vitamin C. Other Vitamin deficiencies can lead to depression. Nuts are a good source of B vitamins. You will want to avoid caffeine as well. It can interfere with sleep patterns, causing further stress to your system.
Manage expectations: No one can cure your depression. However, you must take an active role in getting better. Depression is physical malady with an emotional component. These must be managed together. Take steps to strengthen the physical side, but do not ignore your most powerful tool.
Stand your ground: Do not give in to the urge to withdraw. Social interaction is an important component to getting better. Seek contact with other people. Find a group that interests you and attend.
Express emotions: Life is about experiencing emotions. So, do that. If you feel that you want to cry, do it. If you want to get angry, do that too. Denying the range of healthy emotions will only prolong the time you spend stuck in depressive states.
Go on the offensive: Take charge of your mental health. You are the only person who can know what you are feeling and that makes you the most likely candidate to manage all the pieces that go into causing, or fighting depression. However, do not be afraid to seek professional help. When depression drags on and affects your everyday activities, see a doctor.
